Properties of digital signal-processing methods in comparison with analogue processing. Digital linear filtering, IIR and FIR filters - basic properties. Averaging methods of enhancing signals in noise. Complex signals and frequency translation of signals. Bases of correlation and spectral analysis of signals. Applications for system identification. Introduction to detection and restoration of distorted signals in noise. Generalisation of the above methods for processing of images as 2D signals, enhancement and segmentation of images. Principles of signal- and image-data compression and reconstruction. Typical uses of the methods in processing multimedia- and medical signals and measurement data. Applications in information networks and in archiving the data.
