Learning outcomes of the course unit

Circumstances of historical, philosophical and technical development of human civilization. Orientation in basic philosophical epochas in history and at present-time.

Prerequisites

Basic knoeldges of world history (in secondary school level, summary of important historical events and is suitable), very general survey about history of philosophy (important paradigmates and personalities), knowledge of basic cultural periods in history (with continuity to civil engineering and architecture), orientation in industry and science-technical revolution, basic periodization of history.

Course curriculum

1. Concept of "philosophy". Introduction into philosophical system and terminology. Antic´s philosophy, science and technical knowledge.
2. Antiquity philosophy. Philosophy in Greece. Beginning of philosophy. Socrates, Platon, Aristoteles. Helenistic philosophy. The survey of antic technical and bulding works.
3. Philosophy before Christianity and in the beginning of Christianity period. The Middle-Ages thoughts about the world and sciences. Conceptions of Middle-Ages philosophy. St. Thomas Aquinus - column of the Middle-Age philosophy.
4. The Renaissance change to a human being - a view to new progress? Philosophy of Rennaissance and Reformacy. Humanism. Comenius, Descartes as personalities of Rennaisance.
5. Racinalism and empirism and their influence to philosophical and science world. Locke, Hume, Berkeley. Philosophy in France - Voltaire and Rousseau.
6. Immanuel Cant´s philosophy. The Critics of Poor and Practical Reason.
7. Science and technical conception in New-Ages. Entrance of capitalism and its influence to technical development.
8. Industry revolution. The development of science, technics and civil engineering in the 19th century. Pozitivism in philosophy.
9. The development of philosophy, society and science in the 20th century. Phenomenology and hermeneutics. Philosophy of existence.
10. Modern philosophy in 20th century. Systems and personalities. Wienna´s group. L. Wittgenstein.
11. Increase of technical inventions after World War Second. The role of civil engineering and architecture in technical progress.
12. Science-technical revolution, importance for contemporary period.
13. Modernism and postmodernism in philosophy and science world.

Aims

Deepening and increasing in orientation in history of mankind, society, science and technics. Concretization of imagines about social development in continuity to philosophy and increase of nature and technical sciences. Systematics knowledge of important times, paradigmates and personalities who are outstanding for update science and technics. Analysis of historical and philosophical development with view to contemporary and perspectives.
