Practical Applications in Road Construction

Computer use training and road laboratory work.
Foundations of software utilization in road design and project. Digital terrain model, horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, cross sections. Layout design, longitudinal section, drawing of typical section and regular sections. Earthwork volume.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students get familiarized with specialised CAD. They are able to design details of traffic solution both in rural and urban area.

Prerequisites

Complete highway route design, computation of highway geometry, knowledge of used road materials and typical pavement constructions.

1. Introduction, assignment of seminar project
2. CAD basics – layers, x_refs, layout, font sizes for diferent scales, scales and sizes of the drawing, drawing coordinates, ploting the drawings and creating *.plt (plot) files
3. Inroads – Introduction, preferences, digital terrain model, elements of digital terrain model – points, edges, contour lines
