Fundamental properties of multimedia networks, requirements on multimedia transmission. Multimedia transport protocols, multicasting. Fundamental techniques of audiovisual signal processing, compression. Transport and archiving formats. Internet telephony, videconferencing and webTV. Digital cinema, interactive multimedia systems. Electronic publishing and security.

Students will be able to design and operate multimedia communication services, to measure multimedia transport parameters in computer and telephony networks.
