Fundamentals of TV Technology

Basic information about light. Basic principles of TV transmission. Picture scanning. Television screens. Analog television. TV transmission of sound signals. Teletext transmission. TV receivers. Digitization of images. DVB standard. Image and video compression standards (JPEG, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4-AVC). Channel coding (RS code, convolution code, interleaving). Digital modulations ((QPSK, QAM, OFDM). DVB receivers. High definition television HDTV. Satellite TV transmission.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

5 individual works (one from every tutorial), every work max. 4 points, total number max. 20 points.

2 reports about laboratory testing (one from every practice), every report max. 5 points, total number max. 10 points.

Writing test:
3 questions from rewiev of information - every question max. 20 points - total number max. 60 points,
2 short questions - every question max. 5 points - total number max. 10 points.

Total number of points - max. 100

3. TV transmission of sound signals, teletext transmission, TV receivers
4. DVB standard, image and video compression standards (JPEG, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4-AVC), source coding of sound signals, multiplexing and channel coding
5. Digital modulations (QPSK, QAM, OFDM), DVB receivers, high definition television HDTV, satellite TV transmission
