Diagnostics in electricity industry

Basics of diagnostics, seeking failure causes and their links. Electrical and non-electrical methods in diagnostics and testing. Destructive and non-destructive tests. Appraisal and reliability of diagnostic analysis. Diagnostics and testing, product's technical demands, responsibility for demages caused by faulty products. Principles and organization of testing in Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Basic overview of methods and techniques of testing equipment and diagnostic procedures, which are used in electrical power engineering. Students will be able to do basic diagnostics of the most common failures and they will get acquainted with the current procedures of testing and measurement.

Prerequisites

The subject knowledge on the Bachelor´s degree level is requested.

Technical diagnostics basic principles.
Measured signal treatment to suitable value and form.
Sensors and convertors of electrical and non-electrical quantities.
Vibrodiagnostic - bases, signals, measured quantities, measuring of mechanical damage.
Sonic and ultrasonic diagnostics.
Thermodiagnostics - physical bases, temperature measurement, thermo-vision.
Electrodiagnostics - bases, some diagnostic methods.
Electrodiagnoatics - motors and power transformers applications.
Electrodiagnoatics - power lines and distribution equipment applications.
Systems for electrical quantities monitoring and diagnostics in switchgears and substations.
Methods of measured data processing.
Special systems for measuring and appraisal of electrical quantities with respect to electromagnetic compatibility.
Application of database and expert systems for electrodiagnostics.

Aims

Introducing students to basics of diagnostics and testing, methods of seeking failures and their analysis in production, transmition, distribution and utilizing of electricity. Appraisal and reliability of used methods and tests.
