Issued topics of Doctoral Study Program
- Accumulation of energy in near zero houses
Due to increasing energy consumption, the need for sustainable construction and directive of EU is necessary to design structures in passive houses, in order to reduce energy consumtion and improving the internal environment.
- Architectural conservation
The dissertation is focused on the architectural conservation. The student specifies his/her project according to his/her preferred topic (typology of architectural heritage, conservation areas, social and legislative issues, artistic approach, technology) and method (microanalysis, comparative analysis, historiographical analysis).

- Energy assessment of technological units
Energy assessment of of technological units (eg. wastewater treatment plants, spa technology, technology of winter stadiums). Analysis of the technological processes, the description of a theoretical model of operation, the analysis of boundary conditions, sensitivity analysis, the potential energy savings, benchmarking components of the system, the evaluation criteria and utilization of renewable energy.
Tutor: Hirš Jiří, prof. Ing., CSc.
- Energy concept of Smart City
Creating a systematic procedure for management strategy municipalities and cities for the performance of the SMART City in the energy sector. Object modeling of buildings in the region, cooperation with the Centre of Competence Smart Regions on FAST.
Tutor: Hirš Jiří, prof. Ing., CSc.
- Modeling and simulation of buildings and smart regions.
PhD thesis focuses on the modeling and simulation of intelligent buildings and smart regions. Effective use and placement of elements of ventilation, heating and cooling in buildings and their optimal control system. Systems, equipment and strategies for energy storage.
- New Urbanism
Research focused on traditional urban patterns and their connection to actual needs of the 21st-century society, aimed to the professional description and explanation of tools for qualitative improvement of public spaces. The topic of dissertation is specified according to the student´s specialization (garden cities, City Beautiful, protected heritage areas, New Urbanism, technologies and measures for sustainable planning, community plannig, and peer-to-peer urbanism).

- Optimization of thermally activated building structures
PhD thesis is focused on the optimization of Thermo Active Building Structures (TABS) used for heating and cooling buildings. Assumes the use of simulation methods, laboratory experiment and measurement INSITU. The aim is to provide recommendations for optimal design and control of TABS.
- Ornament in architecture
The dissertation is focused on ornament in architecture. Ornament will be discussed from the artistic, technological, sociological and psychological point of view. Possibilities of the innovative design of contemporary ornament will be analyzed, as well as technologies and practical issues.

- Research of elements and systems of buildings services
Research of elements and systems of buildings services as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) will be conducted in order to achieve a thermal comfort in buildings at the minimum operating energy consumption. HVAC systems research will focus on optimizing of their design and operation with the use of low-potential thermal energy sources. The research will be conducted in its theoretical part by development of new mathematical-physical models, and by laboratory experiments and in situ measurements in an experimental part.
- Research pilot projects of nearly zero-energy buildings and positive energy
Theoretical modeling and experimental measurements of buildings included as pilot projects in the project TAČR CK Smart Regions.
Tutor: Hirš Jiří, prof. Ing., CSc.
- Simulation of flow and pollutants in buildings
Topic of doctoral thesis focuses on the application and verification of theoretical research methods airflow in buildings and external aerodynamics of buildings with the current transfer of moisture. The simulations can use the software Fluent, CFX, or OpenFOAM.
- Smart Cities
Clever town design and infrastructure with respect for low power consuption, application of renewable resources and and quality life conditions. Global trend is to increase concentration of population in relatively few large cities. Large dense cities can be highly productive, inovative, and per capita very green, and hence desirable for our future.
- Traditionalism in architecture of the 19th, 20th and 21st century
The dissertation is focused on traditional form languages in architecture from the 19th until the 21st century, combining methods of historiography, design and technological research. The subject might be the analysis of the work of particular architect/s or architectural school, architecture in specific region or application of traditional design in the contemporary architecture and building technology.
