Profile
The Traffic Constructions specialisation of the Structures and Traffic Constructions branch of the trimestral consecutive master’s study programme Civil Engineering follows on from four-year bachelor’s courses of a similar technical nature. In the later part of the course, it is purposefully divided into two specialised fields and areas of focus, these being the design and technical layout of roads and the design and technical layout of railway structures and constructions. During their studies, students acquire knowledge of the latest scientific and technical findings in all their complex mutual interconnectivity and they are guided towards the performance of independent and creative engineering work. They apply the knowledge acquired in the individual subjects in individually assigned engineering and technical tasks concerning the issues of the given field of study. During the course, great emphasis is placed on independent and creative engineering work. After graduation, students are able to solve even demanding specialised issues independently and are thus ready for their engineering career in industry.
Key learning outcomes
Graduates from the Structures and Traffic Constructions field of study - Traffic Constructions specialisation - have gained highly specialised (theoretical and professional) knowledge in the studied field and specialisation. They are capable of applying the acquired knowledge in the solution of problems within the given field of study and specialisation. They are capable, within the scope of the skills they have gained, of independently solving even demanding specialised problems (the independent solution of complex structural engineering and managerial problems in the construction industry), and are thus prepared for their engineering career in industry. They are capable of implementing comprehensive solutions to engineering problems. As highly-qualified specialists, graduates from this programme are able to hold high engineering and managerial posts and successfully perform the functions required of them, and are equipped with the prerequisites for the solution of even complex technical problems, and not only during the comprehensive design of the construction of traffic structures but also during the preparation and realization of such structures. Within the context of professional competence (after gaining the required amount of work experience), Structures and Traffic Constructions graduates with a specialisation in Traffic Constructions can gain certification from the Czech Chamber of Chartered Engineers and Technicians Engaged in Construction. They are able to manage complex technical or specialised activities or projects and take responsibility for their quality. They are also capable of taking responsibility for the specialised management of individuals and groups.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
Graduates from theTraffic Constructions specialisation of the Structures and Traffic Constructions branch of the consecutive master’s study programme Civil Engineering have deepened their knowledge of theoretical and specialised disciplines. They are entitled to use the title "inženýr" (abbreviated to Ing.) before their name. Graduates are familiar with the newest scientific and technical findings in all their complex mutual interconnectivity. They are capable of applying the gained knowledge from individual subjects to deal with the issues of a given field of study. They are capable of independent creative work as an engineer. As highly-qualified specialists, graduates are able to hold high engineering and managerial posts and successfully carry out the functions required of them. They are capable of producing documentation for the preparation and realization of traffic constructions, and of processing and preparing engineering and technical surveys as well as expert opinions. Graduates also have the prerequisites for work in the field as a private entrepreneur. After accumulating the stipulated period of work experience they can gain certification as certified engineers in one of the legally prescribed certified fields of the Czech Chamber of Chartered Engineers and Technicians Engaged in Construction. They can also find employment within their field in the area of research and development. Graduates’ knowledge of foreign languages in their area of specialisation will enable them to work abroad, if this is required.
