  16. Chromatic flicker perception modeling in flickermeters

Visible light variation may leads to disturbance of human’s visual perception. The origin of such negative effect is in the eye anatomy and physiology. The major influence on the flickering light perception can be found in eye viewing field, photoreceptors (cones of three types and rods) and their distribution at retina as a part of eye anatomy and in eye adaptation mechanisms like pupil, photo-chemical and neural adaptation (response) to luminous variations (including the photoreceptors spectral luminous efficiency) as a part of eye physiology. The human eye can be seen as specialized luminance multi-detector where the stimulation contrast is as important as radiant density. There are differentiated three types of flicker: temporal, spatial and chromatic. All of these flickers are joyless and may involve many psychological interactions. In artificially illuminated areas, lamps light variations due to variations in supply voltage may also lead to flicker perception. Such lamp possibly will produce light with time-varying radiant flux and its spectral distribution. The lamps flickering is produced by a voltage Phase Modulation (PM), mainly by Phase Jumps (PJ) and by Interharmonic Voltages (IH) superimposed on a voltage waveform. Thesis is focused on the voltage fluctuation to lamps time-varying radiant flux and its spectral distribution fluctuation transfer analysis and on the utilization of the analysis results for development and realization of an objective flickermeter having response to both the temporal luminance and chromatic flicker. Student will modify special purpose libraries from general ones (using special calculation codes). The goal of student’s work is to develop a robust system for nuclear data influence evaluation to the reactor core (spent fuel ponds, spent fuel casks, etc.) calculations. Student will deal on detail temperature analysis using CFD codes, with modification of nuclear data for specific temperatures; will use script languages as well as codes based on Monte Carlo method.

  8. Optimization of energy management of buildings with renewable energy sources.

The topic of energy flows in the buildings is actual in particular in terms of minimizing operating costs. Mutual interaction of renewables, storage and management systems brings new possibilities for savings and complex question of optimizing the management of this system is a challenge for the future standard for sustainable building operation. The aim is to analyse the capabilities of current systems for control and visualization BEMS (Building and Energy Management), the possibilities of using renewable energy sources (RES) and energy storage for energy efficiency and possibilities of UNS, Fuzzy Logic and GA in the management of buildings. Furthermore, to propose an algorithm for optimal control of BEMS to minimize operating costs with consideration of external factors (weather prediction, movement, interaction with buildings in the area). Proposed algorithm will be experimentally verified in a real environment.

Tutor: Toman Petr, prof. Ing., Ph.D.

  9. Photometry of daylight distribution components

Topic of study is focused on evaluation of components designed for daylight distribution in interior space of buildings. Primarily this research is dedicated on light tubes where photometry is significantly dependant on shape of optical path. Photometric output characteristics are moreover influenced by material properties of used components, their overall length, and shape of light tubes and also by parameters of input light. Considering high variability of building these light systems it is difficult to predict output photometric parameters. Thus the aim of study should be in finding appropriate description which can be applied in sufficiently accurate prediction of output photometric quantities e.g. luminous efficacy, luminous intensity distribution or spectral power distribution. On the basis of this description it should be possible to design light systems using a great share of daylight which should lead to lower energy consumptions of light system.

    Tutor: Škoda Jan, Ing., Ph.D.

  10. Usage of modern switching devices in power electronics

The main objective of doctoral thesis is an analysis of specific problems in high voltage converter technique. Main aim of work is an construction of function sample of high output power sources for research purpose.

    Tutor: Červinka Dalibor, Ing., Ph.D.
