Original title in Czech: Konstrukční inženýrstvíFSIAbbreviation: M-KSIAcad. year: 2018/2019

Programme: Mechanical Engineering

Length of Study: 2 years

Accredited from: 1.9.2004Accredited until: 31.8.2022

Profile

The main aim is to provide students with principles of machine design and design methods, which are vital for development of new products and machines in the wide range of fields of mechanical engineering. The purpose is not just to acquire theoretical knowledge, but to master application of engineering approach and teamwork. It is based on project oriented learning, which leads students to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. The scheme of the semester is following:

  • 1st to 7th week - block courses. Students acquire knowledge of project management, engineering analysis, computer-aided design, condition monitoring, machine and process control, tribology, prototype design and it's testing.
  • 7th to 13th week – project oriented learning. Students are working in teams on assigned projects.
  • Examination period – defence of the projects.
In the first semester projects are meant to verify generally known principles in practice using theoretical knowledge (e. g. behaviour of truss structures, system dynamics or verification of hydrodynamic lubrication theory). In the following semesters the tasks are focused on realization of complex interdisciplinary problems and development of student's abilities to interpret the results. Students, at all stages of project-oriented learning, work in laboratories and consult the subject under the guidance of a professional guarantor.

Study plan and the courses reflect new and fast developing technologies and interdisciplinary disciplines such as:
  • 3D digitization and reverse engineering,
  • engineering analyses and simulations,
  • additive technologies for production of metal and plastic prototypes,
  • emerging sciences and technologies, machine and process control.
Important part of the study is the diploma thesis. Students work on it throughout the whole study. Diploma theses reflect current research projects and industrial cooperation. The outcome of the thesis is a functional prototype or a scientific article.

Key learning outcomes

Students obtain complex knowledge needed for design of machine parts and units. When they graduate, they are able to create and use 3D digital data for design, simulation and production of final products. They are able to apply advanced approaches to reverse engineering and condition monitoring in the process of machine parts innovation. Project-oriented teaching gives them experience with multidisciplinary problems including experimental verification and validation of outcomes.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Graduates can work as mechanical engineers and designers, project managers, development specialist, researchers and engineering businessmen. Those, who are interested in scientific research or deepening their education, can continue in doctoral study programme. Personal stories of graduate students in Czech language can be found at: studuj KI.
