Profile
The two-year study area COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATICS (M-TIT) in the master’s degree programme at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEEC) BUT aims to educate MSc graduates with a profound theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of modern telecommunications and information technologies who are also qualified in light-current electronics and communication technology and are able to apply this knowledge in design of new appliances and systems. The core courses include subjects in theoretical and practical information technology, multimedia, communication technology and electronics.
The study of this branch can be commenced only after the students have successfully completed the bachelor’s degree programme and passed the bachelor’s final state examination, preferably in a programme oriented towards electrical engineering or information technology.
Instruction in this branch of study is ensured primarily by the Department of Telecommunications (ÚTKO). The offer of optional courses along with an individual technical project and the thesis enable students to focus more closely on the area of mobile and fixed communications, metallic, optical or wireless networks, modern network technology appliances, telecommunication services, multimedia, internet technologies and their services, security methods and high-speed multimedia transmission. Students are also introduced to knowledge of digital filters, signal processors, multimedia signal processing and design of electronic circuits and systems. The graduates will be able to work with user interfaces, use parallel processes in operation systems and ensure security of information systems. Depending on their individual choice, students will be thoroughly acquainted with digital methods of processing and transmission of speech, sound and image signals. They will be introduced to the design and realization of computer networks, database systems and distributed applications so as diverse information technologies. In order to improve the students’ understanding of theory, courses within theoretical extension in higher Mathematics and Physics are provided. Students can also choose technical courses in other study areas in the master’s degree programme at FEEC BUT, language and general knowledge courses.
Key learning outcomes
The graduate will possess detailed knowledge in the field of communication and information technologies. He is both well-provided with theoretical knowledge of communication and information systems and familiar with their design, the electronic design itself, applications, services, surveillance and measuring systems. The spectrum of his theoretical and practical knowledge embraces properties of transmitted multimedia signals and data, their processing and subsequent technical realization of communication and information systems. He is familiar with the structure and provision of various services in mobile and fixed communication and computer networks.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
The graduates of Communications and Informatics have a profound knowledge of communication and information technologies. They are familiar with the theory of communication, multimedia and information system, and are competent in design, construction of electronics, application, services and security systems. Their knowledge ranges from the properties of transmitted multimedia signals and data, and their processing to the technical realization of communication and information systems. They are familiar with the structure and creation of services in mobile and fixed communication and computer networks.
The graduates are qualified in multimedia, communication and information technologies. They are sufficiently competent in related areas of radio communication, instrumentation or applications of microelectronic circuits. They are familiar with cryptography and security systems.
A profound knowledge of theory and a broad scope of applications-oriented study ensure high adaptability of graduates to specific requirements of their future professions. The graduates of this study area find employment in research, development, construction and operation of highly sophisticated telecommunication and information technologies. They can be involved in the development of new-generation services in conventional and mobile communication and computer networks. In all these areas, they can also assume higher executive and management positions.
