Civil Engineering Management

Original title in Czech: Management stavebnictvíFASTAbbreviation: EAcad. year: 2009/2010

Programme: Civil Engineering

Length of Study: 4 years

Profile

The aim of the four-year bachelor's study programme with a specialisation in Construction Management is the mastering of theoretical and specialised subjects, which will enable the independent solution of more complex building/technical and construction management problems in civil engineering.
Study in this field is based on a shared theoretical scientific foundation, which involves the study of the natural sciences as well as basic engineering and construction engineering science. This includes Structural Mechanics, elasticity and plasticity, and statics. The specialised building-related content consists of the subjects Building Constructions, Concrete and Metal Constructions, Construction of Traffic Structures, Water Structures, Technical Equipment of Buildings, and Construction Process Technology. During the course, technical and economics subjects, as well as building and managerial ones, are gradually introduced, with the emphasis being placed on the problems of price, financing and investments in the building industry and on construction project management. Further, managerial subjects such as Company Management, Marketing in the Building Industry, Building Law and Information Systems in the Building Industry are also taught. The ability to solve problems in a complex way is demonstrated in technical projects from the fields of building constructions and concrete constructions, as well as in building/economic projects from the area of building economics. The subjects Construction Firm and Public Building Investments allow further partial specialization.
Graduates of the four-year bachelor's Civil Engineering study programme specializing in Construction Management become bachelors of construction with an education in economics and managerial matters. They are entitled to use the title "bachelor" (abbreviated as "Bc.") before their name. They can find employment in positions which require the ability to solve specialised problems of medium difficulty in the field of construction, economics as well as management, and that during the design, preparation and execution of buildings and industrial, engineering and water management structures. They can be employed in the business sphere in design, execution or investment organizations and in public administration. The achieved education enables, after the fulfilment of conditions which are set by law, the graduate's authorisation as a construction technician or civil engineer in some of the authorised fields of specialization of the Czech Chamber of Authorised Engineers and Technicians Active in Construction. The graduate has the prerequisite qualifications for working in the position of a head officer in public administration in the area of building investments.
