Specific admission requirements

Candidates applying to study in the consecutive master’s study programme Municipal Engineering must demonstrate knowledge and understanding within the scope specified by the appropriate directive of the Dean of FCE BUT in the following ways: through successful completion of the bachelor’s study programme Municipal Engineering at FCE BUT, or at another university (in which case the programme must provide an adequate basis for the pursuit of further studies via the consecutive master’s study programme Municipal Engineering); or through successful completion of another bachelor’s study programme and the demonstration of sufficient knowledge from the core specialized subjects required for study in the consecutive master’s study programme Municipal Engineering; or via passing an entrance exam in general foundation subjects and core specialised subjects within the scope of knowledge required from graduates of the four-year bachelor’s study programme Municipal Engineering at FCE BUT or other civil engineering faculties in the Czech Republic or abroad.

Key learning outcomes

Graduates from the consecutive master’s study programme have gained highly specialized (theoretical and specialized) knowledge in their field of study. They are capable, within the scope of the skills they have gained, of independently solving even demanding specialised problems and are thus prepared for a career as an engineer in industry. As highly-qualified specialists they are able to hold high engineering and managerial posts and successfully perform the functions required of them. They are able to work in state administration, where they may carry out all kinds of activities, including management.
Graduates from the tudy programme Municipal Engineering are able to solve all basic technical, economic and ecological problems connected with the maintenance of functional urban and municipal infrastructure and are capable of the creation and coordination of public infrastructure solutions, i.e. transport and technical infrastructure, open public areas, etc.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

After completing their studies, graduates are engineers with an education in engineering, technical subjects, economics and ecology. They are entitled to use the title “engineer“ (abbreviated to “Ing.”) before their name. Graduates gain knowledge and skills that they can utilize during administrative work and when performing management activities in the preparatory phases of the investment process and engineering activities, in the obtaining of source data for land use planning, in the areas of planning, construction, reconstruction, maintenance and in the maintenance of functional urban and municipal infrastructure. They can find employment in posts requiring the ability to carry out specialised tasks within the public administration apparatus. With regard to the wide range of subjects offered in the syllabus, graduates can also find employment with contractors (in firms involved in investment, engineering and design activities). Graduates can subsequently deepen their specialised education within courses offered via lifelong learning. After gaining the stipulated amount of work experience, graduates can gain certification as a technician from the Czech Chamber of Chartered Engineers and Technicians Engaged in Construction.

Access to further studies

Graduates may continue their education further through a doctoral study programme, where they may gain the title Ph.D. With regard to graduates’ knowledge of foreign languages in their specialised area they can study for a doctorate either in the Czech Republic or abroad.
