Specific admission requirements
Candidates applying to study in the Civil Engineering bachelor’s study programme must demonstrate knowledge and understanding within the scope specified by the appropriate directive of the Dean of FCE BUT, which requires them to have successfully completed their secondary education with a “Maturita“ final secondary school exam. Then, either the grade point average from the candidate’s secondary school allows acceptance without an entrance exam, or an entrance exam is sat featuring mathematics and physics papers based on the current syllabus taught at grammar schools.
Key learning outcomes
During the course of their four years of study, graduates from the Civil Engineering bachelor’s study programme gain knowledge, skills and understanding from theoretical and specialised disciplines targeted at individual fields of study. They are capable of applying the knowledge gained in the individual subjects in dealing with the issues specific to the given subject areas. They are able to: prepare, or participate in the preparation of construction project documentation, or the preparation of land use planning materials and relevant parts of land use planning documentation; perform static and dynamic calculations for structures; carry out technical construction and engineering surveys; perform testing and diagnostic analysis on structures; publish expert opinions; prepare documentation and reports for individual evaluations of the influence of a structure on the environment; manage the realization of a structure; carry out geodetic surveying for projects and demarcation work; act as construction inspector in the capacity of the author of project documentation or as a site manager during the realization of a structure; act as the authorised representative of a developer or designer during proceedings connected with land use planning, construction permission and building acceptance; act as a specialist employed in a department dealing with the building code or land use planning in organs of state administration, etc.
Access to further studies
Graduates may continue their education through a consecutive master’s study programme, where they may gain the title Ing. With regard to graduates’ knowledge of foreign languages in their specialised area they can study for a master’s degree either in the Czech Republic or abroad.
