An ever-greater emphasis is currently being placed on sustainable construction with regard to both the finished product and the construction process itself. In the building industry, economic and environmental sustainability are connected with construction techniques and the spatial requirements of processes at building sites. There is a significant connection between these aspects and the length of construction projects, which is a factor that influences the financial costs of building production and has negative impacts on the natural environment surrounding construction sites. For this reason it is important to deal with the topics of the economical use of the productive area of building sites (e.g. also the minimisation of the area of construction sites and material storage sites, and the duration of their use) and the optimisation of the construction period, which is particularly important in heavily built-up areas and the centres of large cities.

The dissertation focuses on the question of the extent to which the architecture of socialist realism had an impact on heritage conservation, especially on the creation of urban heritage reservations and their restoration, and on the adoption of the first act on heritage care in Czechoslovakia. Would our cities be spared the modernist expansion of prefabricated housing estates without the influence of the Soviet Union and foreign architecture, which was to be socialist in its content and national in its form?
The dissertation will focus on the unrecognized Brno structural system B70, which was based on a system of cells, which was a significant advance since elemental prefabrication. However, for the planned construction production, the cell architecture became very complicated and the building companies forced the copying of only whole blocks. This important work, which could have turned prefabricated housing estates into a pleasant and diverse living environment, remained halfway and is only a question of what large Brno housing estates could look like.
