Green Open Access (self-archiving)

Self-archiving, also known as green open access refers to the practice of depositing articles in an institutional repository or a subject repository such as arXiv.

green open access

A majority of journals endorse un-embargoed self-archiving of the pre-print, immediately after acceptance of the publication. Other journals impose an embargo for 6–12 months or more on making the post print open access.

Some publishers, such as Cambridge University Press or the American Geophysical Union, endorse self-archiving of the final published version of the article, not just peer-reviewed final drafts.

SHERPA/RoMEO (http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/) is the publisher policy index where you can find what policy your journal follows.
