intensive course consisting of block sessions, lectures, interactive seminars, peer-review and online communication

Successful completion of this course involves a production of an academic text; delivery of an academic presentation; and active participation in class discussions and writing activities.

I. Introduction to the course and communication skills in academic context;
II. Academic Speaking Skills: presentations – general introduction / Writing Skills: academic style;
III. Academic Speaking Skills: complex structure, introduction, conclusion of conference talks / Writing Skills: paragraphs, their composition, length;
IV. Academic Speaking Skills: main body, audio-visual aids of conference talks / Writing Skills: text types, abstracts;
V. Academic Speaking Skills: rehearsal, delivery, complex preparation of conference talks / Writing Skills: language functions;
VI. Academic Speaking Skills: spoken interaction, academic/panel discussion, chairing a meeting, session, panel discussion / Writing Skills: text coherence and cohesion / electronic sources use for scientific information;

Učební cíle
The goal of the course is to familiarize Ph.D. students with different approaches in presentation of his/her scientific outcomes in international environment. It aims to improve scientific writing skills, preparing poster or oral presentations of participant. The importance is given also to working with bibliography, citation rules and electronic sources of scientific information. The students become familiar with converting tedious data of their research into the words and sentences of interesting story, what is essential step for an establishing of international co-operations as well as acquiring funds.
