O projektu

The Orthogonal Electrical Neuromodulation project aims to innovate bioelectronic medicine by advancing neuromodulation techniques beyond traditional electric-field effects. ORTHOMOD seeks to harness electrochemical reactions at the interface of implantable electrodes to modulate neural behavior with unprecedented precision, targeting complex neurochemical pathways. This approach promises significant improvements in the specificity and effectiveness of neuromodulation, providing a powerful tool for neuroscience as well as potential bioelectronic medicine. The project encompasses developing a faradaic electromodulation toolbox, creating novel neural interface hardware, validating new neuromodulation strategies in biological systems, and exploring wireless and minimally-invasive techniques based on nano/microtechnology. By integrating chemical mechanisms into neuromodulation, ORTHOMOD represents a paradigm shift towards more selective and nuanced use of electricity in biological interfaces.
