O projektu

The 3D printing of metal matrix composites reinforced by 2D nanomaterials is a cutting-edge technology that brings endless opportunities for biomedical engineering. Implants may be mentioned as typical representatives. Despite the development, they still suffer from some limitations. Moreover, their potential failure negatively affects the physical and mental health of millions worldwide and represents significant costs to the medical system. The project is focused on research, development and the production of new-generation implants made by 3D printing of CoCr-based alloys reinforced by 2D MXene nanosheets. The project will focus on optimising process parameters, material structure and surface. Mechanical, chemical, biotribological properties and biocompatibility will be evaluated. Furthermore, a numerical model enabling quick assessment of implants will be developed. The main goal is to produce an optimised sample of hip joint replacement that will exhibit outstanding performance and all the attributes of a supermodern medical instrument suitable for preclinical testing.
