O projektu
Single-photon emitters, i.e., quantum sources of light capable of emitting single photons, are a key emerging technology for the billion-dollar market in quantum communication and computation. One of the most pressing challenges in this dynamic field is scalable production of powerful sources of indistinguishable photons with well-defined properties and of new tools for manipulation and control of photonic qubits. Recognizing this fact, our project seeks to innovate beyond current quantum emitter platforms towards platforms based on hyperbolic and epsilon-near-zero metamaterials. We propose to develop these hybrid platforms by combining multiple materials, including those exhibiting insulator-metal phase change to implement active tunability. Our aim is to join theoretical and experimental efforts to develop new complex photonic environments that make dynamical control over single-photon emission possible. This effort should provide new ways of manipulation of photonic qubits, contributing to advancements in quantum information processing, sensing, and secure communication.
