This paper presents a comparison of selected environmental impacts of thermal insulation installation into a structural detail located at the base of the wall. This is a specific detail as the used thermal insulation is exposed to high mechanical loads. Therefore, the use of standard insulation materials, such as expanded polystyrene or mineral wool, is impossible. Two variants of the thermal insulation were used in the assessment. The first one is a common (in such structural detail) installation of expanded glass slabs. The other one is the use of structural elements made of thermal insulation composite material developed at Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic. The environmental impacts were identified with the use of LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology in GaBi 4 software tool. Environmental impacts of foam glass installation were taken from databases. Environmental impacts of developed composite material were calculated.
