Úkolem tohoto skripta je seznámit studenty s nejběžnějšími programy, se kterými se mohou setkat při simulacích optických sítí. Představeny jsou programy, jak přímo určené pro simulace optických datových sítí, tak i programy, které nejsou primárně určeny pro dané sítě. Mezi takové programy můžeme zařadit například ns-2, ns-3 a OMNeT++. Výhodou těchto programů však je otevřenost kódu, možnost úpravy simulace dle vlastních požadavků a především možnost simulace vyšších přenosových vrstev. Skupina programů VPIphotonics, Optiwave a RSoft jsou profesionální řešení určená nejen pro testování optických datových sítí, ale i pro návrh nových optických součástek. Vyhodnocení kvality optických datových sítí probíhá vesměs pouze na fyzické vrstvě, vyšší vrstvy jsou zanedbány. Navíc jsou tyto programy velmi nákladné na pořízení. Kombinací programů obou skupin lze navrhnout a testovat optické datové sítě z pohledu nejen vrstvy fyzické, ale i vrstev vyšších.

The aim of this lecture is to acquaint students with the most common programs that may be used for simulation of optical networks. Tehre are presented as proffesional designed software for the simulation of optical data networks, as well as programs that are not primarily intended for the optical network simulation. Such programs can include, for example, ns-2, ns-3 and OMNeT ++. The advantage of these programs is the openness of the code, the possibility of changing the simulation parameters according to user requirements and the opportunity to simulate a higher layers. Group of programs VPIphotonics, Optiwave and RSoft are not only professional solutions designed for testing optical data networks, but also for the design of new optical components. Evaluation of quality of optical data networks is generally only at the physical layer, the higher layers are neglected. In addition, these programs are very expensive to purchase. A combination of both groups of programs can be designed and tested the optical data network from the perspective of not only the physical layer, but also higher layers.
