Research projects in the area of financial management of holdings deal mainly with transfer pricing, an overall assessment of mergers and acquisitions and valuation of concerns. This paper presents research on holding companies in relation to cash management. The research included 15 holdings, comprising 188 business enterprises on the date of the research. The research was performed at holding companies (parent companies) and selected subsidiaries. The research was carried out in two stages. The first stage consisted of a questionnaire survey. The second stage consisted of meetings, interviews, phone and email communication with representatives of the holding companies. The research identified the reasons for the creation of a holding, and the advantages and disadvantages of a holding with an emphasis on cash management. The benefits of a holding were found especially in reducing risk, reducing the volume of invested capital and the ability to effectively manage cash flow
