Originální abstrakt
The influence of a steel member length on its load-carrying capacity in torsion will be studied. The member will be modelled by the finite element method by means of the ANSYS program [1] (brick element). The load-carrying capacity will be calculated by a geometrically and materially nonlinear solution. It will be demonstrated that in short members, the load-carrying capacity in torsion is remarkably higher than that of long members. A short member behaves rather like a spatial body, and the member theory is not valid here. The problems of stress state analysis for the calculation model based on the member finite element method will be discussed. The problems mentioned will be discussed in connection with approaches of the Steel Structures Designing Standards - EUROCODES, as well.
