Shaping and sintering of bulk nanoceramic bodies were investigated. The results have shown that both shaping techniques, cold isostatic pressing and centrifugation, can be used to prepare almost fully dense (~99% of theoretical density) ceramic bodies provided the nanopowders are only weakly agglomerated and/or are properly dispersed through colloidal processing. Samples sintered at a temperature of 1500 degC did not display any nanocrystalline feature, the grain size ranged from 300 to 400 nm. Relative densities of 95.2% t.d. and 97.9% t.d. were achieved for selected ZrO2 bodies sintered at a temperature of 1100 degC for 4 hours and 1200 degC for 1 hour, respectively. At this temperature a nanocrystalline structure in sintered bodies was retained. The average grain size was 53 and 62 nm for a body sintered at 1100 degC and 1200 degC, respectively.
