Making use of one’s attic is a perfect way to expand the living space one has available, and from today's perspective, it is an absolutely usual thing. Mainly for this reason, it is necessary for the structures that form the envelope of the attic space to achieve the required thermal properties. In the case of the roof structure, insulation between rafters is most often used. Even though much progress has been made in the past twenty years, technical procedures and verified design solutions are not being followed properly. This improper handling of materials and tasks can lead to mold, mildew or other biological growth. Depending on the severity, conditions can lead to rot, structural damage, premature paint failure and a variety of health problems. The presented paper is focused on the monitoring and fault diagnosis of two existing buildings, which were built 15 years apart. In both buildings, infrared thermographic analysis of the building envelope was carried out. The emphasis was placed on monitoring the attic space. As is evident from the obtained results, the extent and degree of observed thermal irregularities in both monitored buildings is unusually high, regardless of the year of construction.
