The state-of-the-art laser-ablation based spectroscopic instruments provide data sets increasing in size, number of objects (spectra) and variables (wavelengths). In this work, we focus namely on the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) technique. However, the presented algorithms are applicable also for the processing of data obtained using other optical emission spectroscopic techniques and even mass spec techniques. Typically, the data sets are overloaded with information, analytically relevant as well as redundant, e.g. originating from noise and background.
