We live in the digital era when the growing need for smaller and more energy efficient devices has made higher density data storage one of the most important technological quests. With dimensions close to a nanometer and the ability to store one bit of infor-mation, molecules called Single-Molecule Magnets (SMMs) give a possibility to move the data storage technology forward. For the investigation of SMMs, spectroscopic techniques, such as Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), are essential due to their ability to probe molecular and electronic properties directly. However, because of systems with large zero-field splitting, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy in the high magnetic field is needed in order to access fundamental transitions in SMMs. We propose FTIR spectroscopy in high magnetic fields as a very important tool in the characterization of numerous materials, including SMMs. This method al-lows studying EPR of SMMs with very large zero-field splitting, mainly based on tran-sition metal complexes1 or lanthanides2 that cannot be studied by common EPR sys-tems since they do not provide experimental access to the magnetic resonance transi-tions. It also presents an ideal experimental technique that can probe band structure and elucidate electronic properties of novel 2D materials, such as graphene3. The method of FTIR spectroscopy in high magnetic fields will be mediated by compact FTIR magneto-spectroscopic setup built at CEITEC BUT. It consists of FTIR specůtrometer coupled to the 16 Tesla cryogen-free superconductive magnet. The FTIR magneto-spectroscopic setup will allow us to perform a variety of magneto-optical measurements in infrared (IR) and terahertz (THz) spectral range.
