Pressure to decrease minimal parking requirements has prevailed in recent years in most European cities, especially on development that is well-connected by public transport. The main goal of this philosophy is primarily to reduce automobile dependency as well as foster development with an urban structure similar to that of historical city centers. These are being given as an example of the so-called “city of short distances“, where active and sustainable mobility is most efficient. However real-life application of this philosophy is difficult and European cities are handling this trend differently. While some cities are conservatively keeping relatively high parking requirements, others have already made them lower, abandoned them, or introduced regulation with parking maximums. This paper sums up the results of parking requirements research in selected central European cities and shows differences in these requirements on a real example of multifunctional courtyard development
