Nejnovější publikační počin Ústavu teorie a dějin architektury Fakulty architektury ČVUT v Praze, který byl v roce 2019 připraven pod editorským vedením Petra Vorlíka, je pojat jako kolektivní monografie rozdělená do pěti zastřešujících tematických okruhů: Identita, Ohniska, Péče, Volno a Krajina. Autorky a autoři vycházejí z teze, že sledovanou problematiku nelze nazírat jednostranně a objasňují, že ji zkoumají prostřednictvím „druhého čtení“, jež umožňuje „syntetické uchopení vybraných jevů, které výmluvně charakterizují dvojí tvář architektury osmdesátých let“. Touto dvojí tváří míní fungování oboru definované na jedné straně honbou za oficiálním plněním plánu v rámci centrálně řízeného hospodářství a na straně druhé hledáním autentického výrazu a autorského přístupu inspirovaného experimentálním myšlením šedesátých let a kradmým „pokukováním na Západ“. Jednotlivé kapitoly jsou vždy uvozeny textem editora publikace, v němž přibližuje příslušné téma v širších společenskopolitických souvislostech a uvádí přehled realizací na území dnešní České republiky, které pod ně spadají. Autorky a autoři otevřeně přiznávají, že v knize nezachycují problematiku architektury osmdesátých let v plné šíři. Jistě by stálo za úvahu začlenit sem například kapitolu věnovanou soudobým teoriím, činnosti výzkumných pracovišť či cestám, jimiž za železnou oponu pronikaly myšlenky současné světové architektury (mezinárodní setkání, jichž sice nebylo mnoho, ale která přesto existovala, oborová periodika apod.). Zajímavé by bylo také věnovat se „stínovým profesním sdružením“ i dalším okruhům odkrývajícím institucionální historii oboru (nejen na oficiální úrovni). Svému záměru představit vybraná témata v podobě „nástinu a příslibu“ však autorský kolektiv dostál se ctí a můžeme se těšit na jeho další výstupy.

The latest publication of the Department of Theory and History of Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture, CTU in Prague, prepared in 2019 under the editorial direction of Petr Vorlík, is conceived as a collective monograph divided into five overarching thematic areas: Identity, Focal Points, Care, Leisure and Landscape. The authors start from the thesis that the subject matter cannot be viewed unilaterally, and in the introduction to the publication they explain that they are exploring it through a "second reading" that allows for a "synthetic grasp of selected phenomena that eloquently characterize the double face of 1980s architecture." By this double face, they mean the functioning of a field defined on the one hand by the pursuit of the official execution of a plan within a centrally controlled economy, and on the other by the search for authentic expression and an authorial approach inspired by the experimental thinking of the 1960s and a sneaky "peek at the West". The individual chapters are always introduced by a text by the editor of the publication, in which he introduces the relevant topic in a broader socio-political context and gives an overview of the realisations in the territory of the today's Czech Republic that fall under them. The authors openly admit that the book does not cover the issues of 1980s architecture in its entirety. It would certainly have been worthwhile to include, for example, a chapter devoted to contemporary theories, the activities of research institutes, or the ways in which ideas of contemporary world architecture penetrated behind the Iron Curtain (international meetings, which were few in number but existed nonetheless, professional periodicals, etc.). It would also be interesting to look at the "shadow professional groups" and other circuits revealing the institutional history of the field (not only at the official level). However, the authors' collective has fulfilled its intention to present the selected topics in the form of an "outline and promise" with honour and we can look forward to its further outputs.
