A cleaner prospective has been developed using a synthesis of Fe3O4-waste garlic skins biochar nanocomposites (Fe3O4-WGSBC NCs) were developed using two-step methods (a) green method followed by (b) pyrolysis process. The synthesised Fe3O4-WGSBC NCs were characterised using different techniques, and the outcomes of the characterisation reveal that Fe3O4 was well distributed on the waste garlic skins biochar and the average size of NPs was ∼ 20–30 nm. The XPS technique identified the phase of Fe3O4 and various functional groups that contain biochar surface, which was responsible for Cr(VI) adsorption from an aqueous solution. The maximum adsorption capacity of NCs was achieved at pH2 within 180 min reaction time at optimised NCs dose and Cr(VI) concentration. The model equations related to isotherm, kinetic, and mass transfer were also analysed and well suited to experimental adsorption data and found the best suitable model. Design a batch single-stage adsorber was also drafted to treat Cr(VI) contaminated water from a large-scale industry. A possible mechanism that describes the adsorption phenomenon was also discussed. The effect of temperature and their energy-related constant such as Gibbs energy, enthalpy, for Cr(VI) adsorption by Fe3O4-WGSBC were also calculated and reported in the results. In addition, spent adsorbent after the 4th cycle was re-used for various dyes adsorption at pH 3, 7, and 10 after some thermal modification.
