Dopravní tepny provázejí člověka od nepaměti. Silnice a koleje vytvářejí v krajině linie. Ty zanechávají svoji stopu i po té, kdy sledovaný dopravní směr pozbyl na významu či zanikl úplně. V krajině nám zůstávají úvozy, které si bere zpět příroda, prostorová orientace vesnic je dána výstavbou kolem cest a směry ulic či celá uliční síť měst je dána cestami vybíhajícími z měst do okolních sídelních celků. Liniové stavby jsou všeobecně chápány jako negativní prvek v krajině. Krajinu rozdělují, vytvářejí překážky a zanechávají v ní trvalou jizvu. Také ve městech jsou železniční tratě a rušné pozemní komunikace překážkami, které lidská sídla rozdělují či jim brání v prostorovém rozvoji daným směrem. Na druhou stranu jsou tyto umělé linie významným krajinotvorným prvkem. Kolem cest rostou aleje, neobhospodařovatelná místa v blízkosti staveb zarůstají a v naší intenzivně zemědělsky využívané krajině se objevují zelené pásy, které skýtají mnohdy jediný úkryt živočichům. Dokonce některá dnešní chráněná území paradoxně vznikla díky dřívějším zásahům do krajiny. Na dopravní stavby je proto důležité se dívat z více úhlů pohledu, pracovat s jejich umístěním v krajině a prostoru, neboť tu s námi jsou a i přes veškerou digitalizaci budou i nadále. Ambicí tohoto článku není přinést čtenáři nějaké zásadní či přelomové informace, ale spíše podnět k zamyšlení jak nad negativním působením dopravních staveb na krajinu, tak zejména na nesporná pozitiva, která jsou často při hodnocení těchto staveb přehlížena.

Traffic lines have accompanied man since time immemorial. Roads and tracks create lines in the landscape. They leave their trace even after the transport route in question has lost its importance or disappeared altogether. The landscape is left with the formations that nature takes back, the spatial orientation of villages is determined by the construction around roads, and the directions of streets or the entire street network of towns is determined by the roads running out of towns into the surrounding settlements. Linear buildings are generally seen as a negative element in the landscape. They divide the landscape, create obstacles and leave a permanent scar. Also in cities, railway lines and busy roads are obstacles that divide human settlements or prevent them from developing spatially in a given direction. On the other hand, these artificial lines are an important landscape element. Alleys are growing along roads, unmanageable places near buildings are becoming overgrown and green belts are appearing in our intensively farmed landscape, often providing the only shelter for animals. Paradoxically, some of today's protected areas have even been created as a result of past encroachments on the landscape. It is therefore important to look at transport structures from multiple angles, to work with their location in the landscape and space, because they are here with us and will continue to be here despite all the digitisation. The ambition of this article is not to provide the reader with any fundamental or groundbreaking information, but rather to stimulate reflection on both the negative impact of transport structures on the landscape and, in particular, the undeniable positives that are often overlooked when evaluating these structures.
