A profit is an important goal of any investment into process engineering. A large investment is nearly always linked to international relations (sub contracting, loans, know how, environment etc.). Such complexity of the investment problem cannot be taken into consideration because of prohibitively complex structure of knowledge (different accuracy of different knowledge items, knowledge inconsistency, missing knowledge items etc.). Therefore an information intensity of used formal tools (e.g. statistics) must be taken into consideration. Process engineering problems are sub problems of a much more complex tasks as e.g. investment cost estimation, credit negotiations etc. Classical algorithms based on numerical quantifications are prohibitively information intensive. A theory of qualitative modelling offers a flexible tool capable of dealing with such problems. The scenarios can be screened against the prescribed trends (e.g. maximisation and / or minimisation). However, no generally applicable method exists for all cases and an ad hoc approach and close co-operation with an experienced team of knowledge engineers is essential. Rather often there is no choice of formal tools because of the critical information shortage. This is typical for economics. An analysis of international risks is a well-known example. The paper studies an impact of macroeconomic disturbances in different countries on a large investment. A complex multidimensional task is presented in details.
