Originální abstrakt
Values of initial fracture toughness and impact notch toughness of high purity USSLA steel were determined for 6 different heat treatments leading to 3 different prior austenite grain sizes d. Fracture surfaces of specimens exhibited transgranular as well as intergranular morphology. Observed extreme contradiction in fracture- and notch toughness behavior can be explained in terms of intergranularly induced crack tip shielding working particularly during the fracture toughness test of coarse grained specimens. Inverse behaviour of specimens for impact tests is associated with low resistance of coarse grained structures against crack nucleation caused predominantly by pronounced carbide precipitation and long dislocation mean free paths. Quantitative assessment of the shielding effect by means of both the 3D grain boundary network model (Poisson-Voronoi tessellation) and the FRANC3D program (boundary element method) enables to obtain realistic values of surface energy related to corrected KIc values.
