The paper brings the knowledge from the last period in the area of development of software support for digital photography processing for the purpose of luminance analysis. The paper should also inform the scientific community, what is the current status of this advanced technology in research, development and eventual practical applications. On the authors workplace the software LumiDISP (www.lumidisp.eu), as a prototype solution, is available for a long time. Lately we have succeeded to prepare a universal mathematical apparatus for digital images processing, which offers new possibilities for required analyses. We would like to create a library of mathematical tasks for processing of digital images into requested data. Currently there are for example three mathematical algorithms available for the processing of HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography. This technology enables us to make luminance maps over several orders of magnitude, which in the conventional processing of one frame is not possible. The article is presenting interesting proposals for the evaluation of lighting and we believe that these proposals will be discussed, in order to become used for example as the method for evaluation of the lighting quality.
