Originální abstrakt

Crankshafts of piston engines can be subject to axial vibrations, or, more correctly since the modes of various types are all coupled, to vibration modes that are mainly axial. They can be dangerous owing to the possibility of exciting by gas pressures and inertia forces of reciprocating parts due to the coupling of the various modes. In the past, axial vibrations were an actual danger only in few cases, mainly linked with slow large Diesel engines, but the modern tendency towards higher material stress levels, speeds, and power/mass ratios caused them to become an important factor in the design of wider classes of contemporary internal combustion engines.
