Vacuum thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) method based on the mass spectroscopy of gases evolved from solids under annealing was developed. This spectroscopic method can be utilized for the determination of absolute concentrations of evolved gaseous species and their respective bonding energies. It is also possible to get structural information on materials investigated. Under conditions far of equilibrium when products are permanently removed, evolved concentrations in a closed chamber correspond to the measured partial pressures of evolved species, depending only on reaction rates. The apparatus for mass spectroscopy of thermo-desorbed gases from solid- state substances consists of vacuum chamber, equipped with heated sample holder connected to the mass spectrometer. A computer controls the programmed temperature changes of the solid-state samples. The absolute calibration of the apparatus is possible by comparing the response of evolved gases and that to injected calibrated dose of the respective gas. The model was checked by a model material -calcite- using thermal decomposition with the temperature ramp of constant rise rate 20°C min-1. The measured CO2 evolution curve was compared with a model acquiring good agreement.
