Eco-labelling is relevant issue in the therotec field of today's business environment. Eco-labelling belongs to voluntary approaches (Remtová, 2006). Voluntary approaches are commitments from polluting firms or sectors to improve their environmental performance. Eco-labels declare there are strict environmental and functional criteria fulfilled in the whole product life cycle. At the same time eco-labelled product remains on a very high quality level. It is a case when a product compared to another one of a sort, e.g. polluted less (air pollution, water pollution, sewerage water, noise), contains of no hazardous substances, can be recycled or is made from recycled materials, respectivelly and therefore preserves input ressources. The European Union (EU) legally regulates the rules of eco-labelling. Eco-labelling could also affect international trade of a country in more ways, thereof the most considerable is eco-dumping (low price of a good thanks to no environmental precautions) and eco-protection (required environmental condition of a good used as technical barrier for trade). The ideal consumer does not need eco-labelling - it is like a fashion expert recognizes haute-couture without a tag. However, eco-label is meant to be a guide for ordinary customers and their decision-making process. On the other hand, trust in the eco-label is also an issue for consumers, as manufacturers or manufacturing associantions could set up labels to appear as environmentally friendly ones. It is very difficult to judge which goods are really less damaging to the environment and if producers really pay attention to environmental aspects of production. Confidence in the objectivity and credibility of an eco-label is essential. Eco-labels affect the competitiveness of goods so their misuse should be considered as an unfair competition.
