The category of cement-based composites lies unqestionably among the most advanced materials in the field of structural engineering. Appropriate structural design is conditioned by the ability to predict real structural responses with respect to these materials. This goal can be attained by using robust computational tools with the implementation of proper failure models based on non-linear fracture mechanics. The efficient and reliable application of the models depends on the successful fine-tuning of corresponding material parameters. Fracture energy is one of the most frequent parameters within the field of numerical modelling of cementitiouscomposites. The presented paper deals with aspects of modelling for the elimination or capturing of size and geometry effects on the value of fracture energy. Special attention is pad to a three-point bending tests of a specimens with a central edge notch.
