Minimizing environmental influences on bearing elements of a composite is closely connected to the reduction of crack widths of the protecting matrix cover. Therefore, the crack width distribution of composite specimens is of high importance. Measurements of the crack widths by hand are very time consuming and the precizion is questionable. A number of electronical methods have thus been developed to scan the specimen surface and evaluate emering cracks by a software. We introduce an extended ppostprocessing algoritm of the ARAMIS measuring equipment for the monitoring and tracking the surface displacements of a tested specimen. The algorithm start with the detection of evolving cracks pattern, history of the displacement fields is processed to evaluate the evolution of crack widths. The output of the evaluation includes distribution of crack widths during the loading. The processed data is used as input for a detailed analysis of the local effects occuring in the bond between the matrix and reinforcement in the vicinity of crack bridges using a micro-mesoscopic model implemented earlier by the authors.
