This paper deals with the problems of analysis and design of thin-walled steel beams with circular web holes. The analysis is being performed on the perforated sigma beams used in the expedient flooring structures as floor girders which are subjected to the bending. In some cases the beams are not laterally restraint and the effect of lateral torsional buckling may occur. The characteristic bending resistances with respect to lateral torsional buckling are calculated in accordance with Eurocode design procedure using the cross-section properties of the substitute cross-section. In order to verify the results of EC calculations, the finite element analysis is being performed. Additionally the experimental verification on the beams of three different lengths is executed. The results of finite element analysis are compared with characteristic bending resistances calculated according the EN 1993-1-1 for the substitute cross-section properties. The bending resistances derived from tests are compared with the characteristic bending resistances calculated according the EN 1993-1-1 for the effective cross-section properties determined by testing.
