The article discusses the use of fly ash for preparation of concrete mixtures. Using fly ash produced during high-temperature combustion in power plants as an addition to concrete has been known since the 1960s. As the Standard 206 characterises high-temperature combustion fly ash as a type II additive, i.e. an active additive with pozzolanic properties, this also enables partial replacement of cement. Numerous studies have shown the positive impact of incorporating a dosage of fly ash according to the granulometry of cement and fly ash. Nowadays, attempts have been made to maximise its reactivity in cement composites through several methods, including mechanical activation by mixing several size fractions to reach an ideal particle size distribution, which helps to reach maximal compactness and thus increases strength and durability. The concrete prepared according this method has better mechanical and physical parameters when compared with traditional concretes incorporating fly ash. This paper explores the amount of cement that can be replaced with fly ash in this manner. The influence of fly ash on the consistency of concrete, the development of compressive strength and elasticity modulus after 7, 28, 60, 90 and 360 days were observed.
