Particulate matter (PM) is one of the dangerous pollutants which human is exposed to on daily routine. This pollutant air which may cause health deterioration especially through respiratory pathways. However, the particles themselves might be carriers of many other dangerous substances, above all heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants. The increased concentration of these substances may increase carcinogenic risk to human health. This work evaluates the concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons bound to PM10 particles in the atmosphere of selected areas of Brno city. An estimate of health risks which might come up from the increased concentration of the selected substances bound to PM was carried out as well as potential sources of these compounds.
