The Czech industry uses 28.9 % of the country's workforce, which is the highest percentage among the EU countries with the average being 16.5 % (Eurostat, 2017). The low unemployment figures and focus on industrial production in the current period of economic prosperity make it imperative to educate engineering professionals with state-of-the-art skills. This compels technical universities to admit more students. Employers' unions (Industry and Transport Union) as well as particular employers require that schools and universities should supply them with more graduates. The lack of qualified technicians has become a factor that limits further hi-tech advancement of the Czech Republic. The paper brings some suggestions for innovations in technical education to make it more attractive for students while proving that the demand for technical education is a long term trend with a bright outlook.
