In recent years, the development of nanotechnologies in the Czech Republic has significantly increased. The country is currently listed among the first 30 countries in a number of scientific publications as well as patents. However, besides the undisputed positives of nanomaterials, their potential health and environmental risks must be also monitored. In comparison with the presented scientific results, the relationship between the development and application of nanomaterials and their risk monitoring is unsatisfactory. Current methods and approaches are primarily based on the general principle of risk assessment, which is insufficient. Therefore, for their appropriate application it is necessary to have information based on harmonised expert studies focusing on the impact of nanoparticles on human health, which takes into account testing guidelines and guidance documents provided by OECD. The paper analyses the current situation in the Czech Republic, especially from the perspective of legislation and the possibility of implementation of European regulations into the national legislation including the application of safety measures.
