Chloride determination is important for civil engineering because of the pitting corrosion of reinforcement concrete buildings. This work presents a comparative study between chloride determination in cement paste with added sodium chloride and pressed tablets, containing only pure potassium chloride in a silica matrix. The collinear double-pulse laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) was used for the experiment. LIBS is a fast analytical method and provides quick, almost real-time determination of different elements. Using a high-intensity laser pulse, the plasma is generated, and when it starts to cool down, the characteristic emission of elements is detected. LIBS is a non-destructive method, which can be used in-situ, with minimal sample preparation. Collinear double-pulse LIBS is one of many different configurations, that are used in double-pulse. It is so-called collinear, because two laser pulses have the same axis, and both are directed vertically to the sample surface. The detection of non-metallic elements, especially halogens such as chlorine, using LIBS is more complicated, because of the high excitation energy and low level of atomization in plasma [1]. Another commonly used method how to determine chloride content is potentiometric titration, which requires sample preparation. Two Nd:YAG lasers were used, for chloride content determination. Helium atmosphere was used because of the highest signal-to-noise ratio for an atomic line of chlorine (Cl I 837.59 nm). Firstly, the optimization measuring was done. Laser pulse energies, interpulse delay, gate delay, were tested and optimized. After the optimization, the calibration dependence was construed. The limit of detection and the limit of quantification was calculated and compared.
