Abstract - Butterflies have color vision which they utilize in the search for flowers. There are typically around six difference classes of photoreceptors with specific spectral sensitivities. This paper goes over a typical butterflies’ eyes structure as well as their properties. The experimental data obtained using an atomic force microscope was used to investigate the surface characteristics of an eye of Coenonympha pamphilus butterfly species. Coenonymph pamphilus which is also known colloquially as the ‘small heath’ is the smallest butterfly within Satyrinae subfamily.
