The proper use of newly introduced European standards for road materials needs experience. This experience is possible to gain only by the practical tests and applications. For this reason the Ministry of Tranportation of the Czech Republic allocated the grant "Introduction of European standards for the specification of materials improving the road serviceability, life time and transport safety", which has to help to solve this issue. The grant is aimed on the use of functional tests for soils, unbound materials, bituminous binders and asphalt mixtures. For some tests new testing equipments have to be con-structed. The results and conslusions from the practical tests will help to apply the road materials according to the climate conditions and the traffic volume and will be transferred into the national annexes of the appropriate European standards.
