Reconstructions of appurtenant structures of many dams have been carried out in Czech Republic recently. Safety management of extreme water passage (usually 10 000-yaer flood) is required. This requirement often leads to proposal of significant upgrades which are necessary to be assessed using hydraulic research. This paper presents results of two studies of flow which were conducted on hydraulic models. The aim of the first study was proposal of measure to eliminate occurrence of cross waves formed along the downstream chute. Proposed stream leading element will be applied on the chute of the Terlicko dam. The second study was focused on investigation of flow patterns in convergent channel with supercritical slope. This type of channel can be seen on several dams mainly downstream of the emergency overflow. Therefore, the results of the study are applicable in many cases. These results were applied for a proper proposal of necessary modifications of the Bystricka dam emergency spillway.
