This paper deals with design procedure of structural glass members subjected to the buckling. Because of slenderness of glass plates it is necessary to take into account the stability problems. Actually, three approaches of design are available – buckling curves approach, non-linear analytical analysis and non-linear numerical analysis. In general, all three approaches are described and compared. In a case of laminated glass cross-section it is necessary to determine effective cross-sectional characteristics – effective bending stiffness and equivalent thickness of monolithic glass – using sandwich theory. From parametric study it is obvious that significant influence on the critical buckling load has interlayer shear modulus. Material properties of interlayer polyvinyl butyral foil depend on environment temperature and the load duration. The results indicate that the critical buckling load of laminated glass columns (considering long load duration or high temperature) is approximately four to ten times lower than for equivalent monolithic glass beams.
